WORLD AIDS DAY – DECEMBER 2025

1. Objectives of the Activity

  1. To enhance awareness among students on HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention, and early identification.
  2. To dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS.
  3. To promote empathy, inclusivity, and stigma-free attitudes toward people living with HIV/AIDS.
  4. To strengthen the role of pharmacy students as future healthcare professionals in public health advocacy.
  5. To encourage student engagement through interactive learning and peer-led education.

2. Description of the Activity

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, in association with SSGP, organized a World AIDS Day Awareness Programme at Nadumuttam. An AIDS Awareness Booth was installed, and an informative pamphlet titled “From Disruption to Hope: A New AIDS Agenda” was released.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. K. S. G. Arulkumaran, Principal, who emphasized the importance of public health awareness in healthcare education.

The awareness booth showcased vital information on:

  1. HIV transmission
  2. Prevention strategies
  3. Symptoms and early signs
  4. Myth-busting facts
  5. Approaches to stigma reduction

Eighth-semester B.Pharm students(2021-2025) conducted short interactive micro-sessions to enhance understanding through peer-led learning.

Mrs. Aswathi B., Associate Professor and SSGP Co-ordinator, delivered the felicitation, stressing empathy and evidence-based education in addressing HIV/AIDS.
The programme was coordinated by Mr. Ramkumar R. P. and Dr. Aparna K. S., under the guidance of Dr. S. Rajarajan. Student volunteers actively participated in managing the booth and facilitating interactions.

3. Outcomes of the Activity

  1. Over 100 students from B.Pharm and Pharm D,D.Pharm programmes participated.
  2. Improved knowledge and awareness regarding HIV transmission and prevention.
  3. Reduction in common misconceptions and increased readiness to engage in stigma-free conversations.
  4. Strengthened student engagement through informative micro-sessions and peer learning.
  5. Promoted a supportive and inclusive environment for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
  6. Enhanced public health advocacy skills among pharmacy students.
