OSTEOPOROSIS DAY 2025

THEME: IT’S UNACCEPTABLE OSTEOPOROSIS: WHERE CALCIUM FAILS

The Department of Pharmacy Practice, K.T.N College of Pharmacy, organized an awareness session in observance of World Osteoporosis Day on 21st October 2025. The program began at 3:00 PM with a welcome address delivered by Mr. Anoop T, Academic Coordinator and Associate Professor, K.T.N College of Pharmacy.
Following the welcome, Dr. Nisha, Assistant Professor, introduced the distinguished resource person, Dr. Rohit V, Orthopaedic Surgeon, Valluvanad Hospital, Ottapalam.
Dr. Rohit delivered a highly informative session on “Osteoporosis – Where Calcium Fails.” He discussed the pathophysiology, risk factors, and preventive aspects of osteoporosis, highlighting the crucial role of Vitamin D and adequate protein intake in bone health. He further emphasized that regular exercise not only helps in maintaining bone strength but also serves as a cornerstone for promoting brain health and overall well-being.

The speaker elaborated on current developments in the management of osteoporosis, covering both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment approaches. He also explained diagnostic measures such as the DEXA scan and the FRAX score, which aid in assessing bone density and fracture risk. Additionally, he shed light on variations in bone density among different races, emphasizing the importance of individualized assessment and management.
A Token of Love was presented to the resource person as a gesture of gratitude. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Mrs. Anjali Sruthy S, Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, K.T.N College of Pharmacy. Mrs.Anuradha V.P, associate professor of department of Pharmacy practice acted as the coordinator for the awareness day program. The program concluded with the National Anthem.
