Diabetes is one of the fastest spreading lifestyle diseases. This condition, which can lead to several serious complications including kidney diseases, is primarily caused by unhealthy lifestyle practices. While India is often referred to as the diabetes capital of the world, the fact that our small state Kerala has become the diabetes capital of India is a reality that should deeply concern us. Even more distressing is the truth that nearly half of the people living with diabetes are unaware that they have the disease.
As commonly said, the first step in treating any disease is to understand it. This is exactly why days like World Diabetes Day hold great significance. Awareness about diabetes is no longer just a necessity — it has become an absolute imperative.
